Brim Trailer, Writing Samples, and Vlogging

Another month down, another post to discuss what I’ve been up to and some new additions to the site!

Companion Video

I’ve decided to create a vlog to accompany each blog post. Sometimes it will be a visual/audible expansion of the topic I write about (which I plan to cover filmmaking, writing, etc. as months pass), and sometimes, in this case too, it’s a personal anecdote related to the main topic. In this case, this month’s main feature is the writing samples added to my site. To accompany that, I made a vlog discussing some of my favorite books, notably ones that inspire me to always write.

Writing Samples

As you can see in the navigation bar at the top of the site, Writing Samples has been added! It’s a drop-down menu leading to sections on Dungeons & Dragons Character Backstories, Essays, and Film Criticism. It’s all a selection of work that I feel best showcases my writing ability, and eventually short stories, novel chapter samples, and screenplays will get added. I’m limiting the samples to just be things that won’t affect me at all if stolen, which also means that I won’t be sharing any work-in-progress stuff. The “eventually” stuff listed will be posted once they’ve served their purpose.

Feel free to poke around and I hope you enjoy!

Brim Trailer

The trailer for Brim, a feature film I produced for Visage Entertainment, is now available!

Synopsis: A trans-generational drama exploring racial trauma, resilience, and legacy, as we follow a family from the 1940s into the 2020s. The narrative navigates the erasure of Blackness and how racial trauma impacts Alzheimer's disease and cognitive decline as the majority American identity reckons with race and privilege and their role in oppressive systems.

Movie of the Month

Cheating a little bit this month by choosing a webseries instead, but it all runs under 100 minutes and I think it’s topical more now than when it originally released. I’m talking about…

Command Z

Synopsis: An artificial intelligent-version of a former billionaire scientist tasks his employees with a “historic” mission to travel back in time to revise history and save the world.

Despite attempting this series multiple times but never moving beyond the first episode until now, I ended up really loving Command Z. It's the type of story where the subtext is more interesting than the main text, focusing on climate change and how engaging with small community changes can lead to bigger impacts than trying to tackle issues larger than us head-on. If you can look past the iPhone cinematography and stage play dialogue, Command Z has a lot of heart to offer in its eight episodes.

I’m a big supporter of thinking globally and acting locally, and I consider this website to be a part of that action. If I can convince one person to watch these movies of the months through these posts, I think that’s one step closer to making a global impact.

Watch for free on Steven Soderbergh’s website!
